The seladang

                                                                The seladang

Assalamualikum dan very good evening. Today, I would like to share about a massive creature that inhibit Malaysia Peninsular Forest.

The Bull Seladang or Gaur is a magnificent animal. Their scientific name is Bos Gaurus. Their appearance are almost completely black except for its legs from the knees downward, which are grubby yellow colour. A greyish coloured hair covers the forehead and the district frontal ridge between the horns. The same colour extends to the eyes where it shades away to black. The inner part of the ear is chestnut coloured and sometimes the prevalent colour is dark brown on the frontal ridge and the back of the horns.

Characteristic

The body of this mammal is covered in very short hair and the hide is almost bare in old bulls. The Seladang has s distinct dorsal ridge running from the neck to the middle of the back where it terminates abruptly. The height of this dorsal ridge from its back is about 4-5 inches. The seladang differs from domestic cattle due to its lack of a dewlap.

The bull seladang looks impressive with its massive horns, head and shoulders. It great body length and somewhat low quaters give the seladang a rather low, cumbersome image from behind the shoulders . this appearance is deceiving as the selang is a powerful animal.

Weigh and Measurement

l Size and weight of bull is very differ than a cows. The weight of mature bull can attain a weight of 900kg. The body bull can reach 4m or 12 ft in length attaining 2.1 m or 6.4 ft at the shoulder. The weight of a cow can be from 509 kg at 6 to 7 years and can reach up to 600 kg in older animals.

Present range

l In Malaysia Peninsular, there are many state that can be found such as Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Johore and Perak. They can be found in a flat lowland forest of each state. At the rigdes, plateaus and peaks, this kind of habitat hard to find them because of limit vegetation available. The flat lowland forest that this animals inhbit including riverine, watershed and marginal flat forest.

Diet

This manificient creature is a herbivore. Their diets are most plants. Where pastures are available, Bos Gaurus have been observed to feed like domestic cattle. Vegetation type based diet such as fruit and  Dipterocarp species are mainly present grass, herns, shrubs, vines and trees. The most browsed items including mangkirai (Trema Angustifolia) and (Trema tomentosa), Mahang (Macaranga sp.) Simpoh fruits (Dillemia ovata and Dillemia indica ) and Kerayong (Parkia javanica) were preferred species.
